Why do I feel scared of posting my software or code online for the whole world to see? I feel people will criticize me.
You might get people who will criticize you about your code/software. They might say you are not well known enough to have any merit at first. They say your software is a virus. They might talk really badly and curse you to no end.
I started my own thread and continually kept posting on my thread as I grew and learned. There is no room for negativity on your thread. Most people do not dare post on your posts/thread anything negative as it is your thread.
You can try to post on other forums/channels/video comments but after the harsh response, let your “work” be the proof. All you need to do is keep working at your craft and post your progress on your thread. But sometimes the harsh response is warranted though as not all of the comments are derogatory.
There are people on your side. There are 8 billion+ people on this planet. There is bound to be at least 5 people who think like you in this world. So post anyways and see the responses from your positive audience.
You might feel like you want to get a huge audience on your side but the reality is that maybe only 10 people in this world think like you and support you. This is if I am thinking really small and negative 😞. Those people are like a similar copy of you living out there all over the world.
Don’t fret and know that you have these 5-10 people out there in the world on your side. It feels sad and bad to only have this low number of people as friends but that may be the reality once you finally accept it.
You can think like you have 5-10 people who share and think like you which is cool if you think positive 😊.
Just focus on your positive audience who add to the conversation and project.
We live in a Instagram/TikTok/YouTube world where views and subscribers/followers might matter. Software is different. People naturally dislike people with this type of knowledge. So usually old people or mature people realize life is about maturing and work. You will get people around 33 years old and older on your side. The people 30 and below are still having fun and exploring life. Once they hit ‘The Wall’ then they will jump on your team and have a mature proper life of work, study and growth.
It is taking forever! When will I have enough skills to work and do programming
I only like programming 40% of the time so I the answer maybe is that programming is made for people who like it more MAYBE or MAYBE NOT?
I try to keep learning and getting into the “zone” to just program all the time. I am getting better but I have not really worked in a company before. I just do independent and group projects with my friends.
I am thinking if you like researching and problem solving naturally then programming might be for you. If you are looking for the amount of time to become good at programming then … I don’t know. I only like programming sometimes so I am not a really full fledge programmer coding day and night.
I learned programming to create computer system utilities like I wanted as a child. That is what I wanted to do in grade 6 here in Canada. That was my goal beyond anything else so that is why I learned programming really.
I think if you truly focus on what you really want when you were a child then you can do that without worrying about anything else. Everything else is just interference and superficial things 90% of the time. The rivalry and competition is minimized or non-existent if you just “play” in your field.
When I just concentrate on my child dream of becoming a system utility developer it seems like it is the only thing that should matter in my life.
Programming or not, you should focus on your dreams if you can and see how it flourishes to become something different and an unique “niche” skill that is important to you first. Take pride in being someone with unique talents and skills at the end.
Take the time to master learn something then become so niche at the end to be different.
You then have a perspective worth talking about at the dinner table then.
Childlike, I like to think I am a good programmer or I am a programmer. Maybe the way I think has gotten me this far so far as a programmer. The way I think and the way I live is the way to do the things I want???
As I gotten older, I found nothing I say or do is 100% final or concrete. I am playing with ideas and words.
So take what I say as just some passing ideas from a guy. Make up your mind yourself and keep going.
After getting old, I just did what I wanted when I was in grade 6 and now going on a tangent to do more or less of what I am currently doing. Everyone has a different pathway to programming. Just find what you are interested in and do it. Eventually everyone come to an level of computing knowledge that is pretty much equal to everyone else. The only difference then is then what you really want to explore and do. Everything just will take time. Don’t fret.
Is it worth it to do programming? Even at my age?
Programming helped every part of my life.
I started programming at 25 again after doing poorly in grade 11. Off and on I kept trying to do it since the age of 25.
It is not a waste of time to do programming because math/logic/programming are the skills you need to live a good life in the modern world.
It can apply to healthcare, teaching and other areas of your life.
Less impulsive behaviour if you study and implement programming in your life to look at everything logically.
Watch out for people trying to stop you or tell you it is not worth it to do!!! It helped me live an overall better life with this skill. Disregard everyone saying you should not do it!!!
Please just do it. It is not a waste of time at any age.
Coolest thing is you develop a product that is used by others and it feels so gratifying seeing it used.
Also by doing your own unique projects, you have a perspective and vantage point that can analyze and solve more problems. This is the coolest and most helpful thing that comes from venturing on your own and doing your own thing.
Also you meet really cool smart people to talk to everyday. Brightens your day everyday.
In 2025, after coding for my friend for 6 years I learned the value of refactoring. I learned to make things efficient, more structured and could scale. Doing this over and over is addictive. The idea is how much more efficient can you get an app? It is a puzzle and game to make things more efficient and clean. As you age this is what you want regardless of age.
If you partake in OS customization software development, it is the funniest activity. So fun and abstract that it like healthy and revitalizing. It could be the activity for staying young and active.
I feel something wrong. When I am in school or pursuing computer studies I feel uneasy. Am I supposed to be doing computer studies? I feel I am not allowed?
Yes, you are suppose to study. The world is a weird place especially in the North America.
You are supposed to be actively and proactively learning and growing instead of the media narrative where it is sex, drugs and rock and roll.
Some people are externally motivated and validated. Most of North Americans are externally motivated.
Some countries in Asia are also externally motivated.
Buddhist countries like South Vietnamese like my family are not externally motivated. For me it is mostly survival and growth.
In pursuing computer studies, just avoid teachers and other students who come from origins that are externally motivated to study.
If you sense negatively in pursuing your studies from them then just walk away and study online. Find others like you to study with. Find same frequency friends in person and online to work with. Life is to grow and learn and it has 100% nothing to do with others.
It could be just that some groups and your group are culturally mismatched. Leave it at culturally mismatched.
I struggled getting my 2-year computer programming diploma because I went to school in person where there were teachers and students who made learning almost impossible. Some teachers expected you to have 25 years of work experience at 20 years old. They increase the course work to that degree to push the student but also show you how competitive coding could be. It is 50 : 50. There are certain races and cultures that only define you based on your skills. They will come to the school and override your life and the entire classroom. They define how everyone should live according to their culture disregarding that life is more than school and work. Yes, school in person and even online will be hell for students who are just studying as life requires them to learn and grow naturally. It is just odd at the end. Just walk away from these types and grab a nice pizza slice with extra toppings and really cold pop and go home to study taking all the time you want to finish school. That is why if you are pursuing hard schooling like computer coding just avoid your parents, friends and family asking why you are struggling and taking so long to finish schooling. Some people have it in them to judge and ruin others based on skills alone especially when they are young thinking that skills only matters. Lots of different people out there.
It took me 39 years to finish schooling. I did a degree in sciences in Scarborough and a diploma in Oshawa as a person born in Oshawa and grew up in Ajax. I had trouble with school, growing and people. And that is just life. Could it be different if I went more East to go to school in Peterborough instead of Scarborough and Oshawa? Not sure. I never went to school further East. I am pretty sure if I went to school more Eastward I would get help instead of getting picked on as more further East people are working hard rather than manipulating people and the environment for themselves. But if going Eastward is so much work, I would have given up schooling. My older brother never finished school because the schoolwork out East was too hard and not inclusive? I am not sure why my older brother never finished school out East. Maybe he felt too stupid to pursue among his classmates? So there is a reversal? Again 50 : 50.
Asian on Asian racism is hostile even if you are 2nd generation … That is the oddest thing in the world. Immigrants come in and think you are FOB “Fresh Off the Boat” just like them and expect you to respect Asian hierarchy status. They pick on you until you are forced to play ball with them according to their overseas rules. If you don’t play with them they will make life totally discomforting the whole semester or entire schooling. At this point you get done the basics and study outside taking as long as you can to understand what you need to survive and live and enjoy life. Totally ignore your immigrant parents if you are 2nd generation if you complain that immigrants are messing things up for you. Your immigrant parents will say you don’t know how to get along with people. There is some immigrant classmates who are so ‘Asian egotistical’ that it is impossible to get along unless you run away and study with your same frequency genuine friends.
I am born in Canada as a 2nd generation Vietnamese born in Canada and I need immigrants. The longer I live in Canada I become more First Peoples ??? So I do welcome immigrants but sometimes it is just odd as they don’t understand the changing effect of become indigenous to this land. I literally have to do my thing but immigrants think it has to do something with them. No, I got to live for myself first as I am 2nd gen. Some immigrants don’t understand that everyone needs to learn and live naturally ??? This is a very mature mindset to think everyone needs to learn and live in Canada.
