Vietnamese from Vietnam Perspective

< Perspective

The Vietnamese from Vietnam have a developed way of Vietnamese cultural thinking. They were born in Vietnam and have grown up till they are 15-18 years old and moved to Canada for education and work and to live in Canada/West.

They are still very Vietnamese. The exposure to the Western media is great while they are in Vietnam but they are still Vietnamese from Vietnam.

They aspire to land a good job in Canada, adopt Western culture and values and have a family here. Possibly sponsor their family and extended family to Canada too.

They have goals. They want to marry someone who is Western usually.

But I aspire to be like a Vietnamese from Vietnam because …

They have so much grit and resilience. And I don’t understand much about Vietnam or being Vietnamese.

But I forget that they grew up in Vietnam. There are negative but good aspects living in Vietnam.

Vietnam is not that rich, opportunities maybe limited, exposure to face-to-face Western people is limited … etc.

It is hard to save money for a Western education. Some are excellent scholars and have scholarships.

Some parents sell their land and assets.

Some are pretty well off.

Some really want to move to the West for the abundance of everything.

It really makes you question and feel gratitude for what you have in comparison. That is the real driving factor for me to appreciate what I have being born in Canada. It makes me want to just sit there are do good growing things.

But in comparison, I have to fall into line and reach Vietnamese goals like them. I have an advantage being born in Canada with its experiences and should be able to do well too.

Without the exposure to Vietnamese from Vietnam in colleges and universities, I would not have changed to aspire and excel.

It connected me into a group. It gave me the “Vietnamese feeling”.

If I did not connect with Vietnamese from Vietnam I would have no where to connect to really. I have my extended family back home in Vietnam who support me unconditionally and my endeavors. They understand my perspective. I guess same blood relates to you regardless whatever people say in the world.
