Dynamics of Vietnamese

I understood Vietnamese from my angle growing up as a child of Southern Vietnamese Boat Refugees born in Canada.

I got swayed to live so Western so forward but that got me sick in the beginning. I could not think and lived bad.

I needed to practice my culture and learn how it is from all viewpoints so I can live and make decisions later.

I learned that as a Vietnamese, I naturally think independent and play defense at all angles.

How do Vietnamese date? When they are young they explore and date around. They are influenced by Hollywood. When they are 35+ at child bearing age, some Vietnamese born in Canada seek the same Vietnamese born in Canada. As newcomers to the West, our identity and lineage isn’t solid yet so we seek similar upbringings naturally for familiarity and comfort and for growth later after exploring.
Differences of Vietnamese women from VietnamSome Vietnamese women from Vietnam are fiercely proud of their Vietnamese cultural identity especially from the North because of history, geography and climate naturally in their blood. Vietnamese from the South date around and match with whoever sometimes. South likes to live more Western and open.
Every Vietnamese born in the Canada is different and has dual identity and dual expectations. As a Vietnamese born in Canada from the South from Mekong River area I am calm and in good spirits. I am part of the area where it practices Phật giáo Hòa Hảo. I find myself wanting a life back at that location sometimes. That region grows everything in abundance and excess, so I naturally have enough and don’t worry about anything. But living in Canada, I addressed my backwardness and learned why Vietnam exists and tried hard since 2012. I learned how divided society can be and used my guts to try and excel as an immigrant and as a forward Westerner. It took time and it worked. Learning about the dividedness in Western society and my home culture made me who I am. I had to learn it first then decide what to do after to build identity and backbone first.
How are Vietnamese women from Vietnam? They don’t understand how being ‘Vietnamese born in the West’ actually feels. Both my parents are Vietnamese. So talking to Vietnamese women from Vietnam, we are usually lost when talking. I am deathly afraid of Vietnamese from Vietnam and don’t really bother talking to them because they will never understand how I feel growing up. Being born in Canada you are treated so different with Western caricature stereotypes from the majority so you fall in line so there is no trouble getting along with the majority people and to mix out. When you grow older it does change as you get old but that pressing feeling to fall in line and mix out is there. It is meaningful to get everyone getting along and mix out so everyone blends. It doesn’t really work because people are supposed to grow and explore their views so they grow and can feel and do new things possibly to feel good. But at the end of the day it is to treat the people that suffer better and complete the circle of life.
Who am I naturally afraid of?Vietnamese women from middle and Northern areas of Vietnam. Life for them is about work and survival and external things I think (external validation). I am from the South so things are just whatever as everything grows. It is good to entertain education and skills and goals and accomplishments to all of Vietnamese people either from Vietnam or the West. Keeps you alive and buzzed.
What did you learn about Vietnam from travelling there when you are older?Vietnamese work really hard to become a independent country to defend against everyone. They work one of the hardest to keep alive and their identity. When they are young they kind of just play but when they understand the world situation they kick it in high gear. There isn’t really a lazy Vietnamese once they understand world geo politics.
What do you think about Vietnamese women born in Canada? When they are young they date around and try to be Western or whatever. It does work. But sometimes after having a kids and how different cultures work together, they sometimes come back to learn about their homeland culture and want to learn everything about Vietnam and its people. My father says Vietnamese or any other culture usually fall back in their homeland culture. Again that is dual. The kids after mixing see the good and bad about mixing. The goal is to have kids regardless of race, culture or religion to make peace and complete the circle of life.
How does knowing Vietnamese from Vietnam affected you?Once I understood the 3 different regions of Vietnam and its people, I realized how hard each region works to be strong, proud, independent, intelligent and clever! In order to impress the middle and Northern Vietnamese, I have to work harder and try more combining everything I know living in the West and learning about Vietnam and its world history.
What did you learn about Vietnamese from Canada? It is kind of whatever, we have supports here so we do what we feel is right at the time and project a little. Some of us are behind and some of us are in the fast lane. We don’t fit anywhere exactly. We are floating. I got traction because my mom born me a computer guy and I just zoned out on it since 2012. My mother understood the benefits of being born in Canada and allowed me to study and follow my passions. Some Vietnamese born in Canada have no options and just have to work because they don’t want supports and have to pay bills. Again it depends on how much they worldly know and can benefit from. Everyone is doing something for their ego in a first-world developed country like Canada. Some seek property assets and professional careers while some explore and do their passion.
What did you learn about Vietnamese from USA?USA is a melting pot and sometimes that doesn’t go well? Depends on ones culture if melting is good or else they seek to live somewhere else to have a better life???
What is in you future with Vietnamese?Vietnamese restaurants and businesses are finally expanding to my area. So I am seeing what is up with that. Am I tied to living and working my Vietnamese staple jobs here in Canada to get along with everyone? Do I have a say in society?
