Updates (Sept 27, 2025)
I had about 3 experiences working and volunteering in healthcare.
The healthcare experiences changed me 100% completely. And that is the main reason why I have this forward and open and go-go approach to everything.
In 2006, I worked as a pharmacy technician part-time for about half a year. I was working at a large supermarket in Ajax.
In 2019, I volunteered in the Cancer Centre in my local hospital in Oshawa.
In 2019, I went to school for practical nursing for about a year in Scarborough.
Once you basically ‘give your life’ to healthcare for the health of people, that changes you completely. You change your mind to serve others.
When I decided to go back to school to do practical nursing, I got the chance to volunteer at the Cancer Centre in Oshawa and that changed the way I think completely for the rest of my life.
…
The thing with healthcare is that you are always learning. Always learning is a skill you kind of learn. But really once you switch thinking from making money saving for yourself to selflessly taking care of people, then you change completely for the rest of your life. “You serve. Learn to take care of people for a long healthy life.”.
It makes you overcome everything in life. You can respond and react to everyone in a good constructive way.
That is what I learned doing healthcare volunteering at the Cancer Centre and doing practical nursing.
…
I read a quote that said, “If everyone took the chance to volunteer at a hospice place. You would never think negative and complain again.”
That is why parents push their kids to do healthcare. Especially Asian parents. Most Asian kids born in the West hate healthcare because they want to do what they want. But once the kid does some healthcare work, their thinking changes like me.
The nursing experience will change your life. Change your mindset forever.
Your brain grows to have this thinking that life must be positive and have hope to ‘just function’.
That is what I learned from doing practical nursing.
…
Doing nursing puts you in ‘the loop’. It is almost like an ‘infinite loop’ of life doing stuff and learning all day to keep you happy, positive and growing.
…
Does doing nursing or people who can do nursing like to care for people naturally? It takes a specific individual to do it I think.
…
All the negativity of life like crab mentality and negative projections to you are reduced significantly once you have done healthcare.
Like you just hear negative projections and learn from it instead of reacting badly.
…
Most people are nice but to get this thinking sometimes requires you to do healthcare. Practical nursing did it for me.
…
If you do some healthcare work like practical nursing then this happens:
- You may have authority over people because you are in a position to help people.
- You overcome racism. You are placed in the mindset to think positive all the time. Any racist remarks are minimized. The racism between ‘color versus color’ is silenced once you do practical nursing. As a Southeast Asian person in practical nursing, you are looking out for the well being of disadvantaged people (colored minorities). There can not be a a hierarchy power play doing nursing.
…
Things that happened which I am grateful for:
- Al Michael Lane of www.AMLCSL.com pushed me to learn programming. What did it teach me?:
- Think like Westerners: Open all the way.
- Try to be independent. More and more independent everyday.
The thing of thinking open like Westerners is that the landscape is 10000% open. 10000% open for discussion which can expand. That is what I learned from talking to Al.
When I feel sad, stuck, or when people negatively project to me, or there is even racism at play, at the end of the day this is what I think what Al taught me. And remember, I was born in Canada so people push the negative Westernized stereotypes daily LOL! That is just how it is in North America LOL!
That is why computer work is so helpful for life. It is 1:1. Either it works or doesn’t.
Race and culture don’t matter when you are sitting there coding zoned out.
And that is another thing about coding. You don’t care about anything and you only have the cool zone out feeling which feels great.
Coding builds you that you think logically out of stuff.
That is the trick. The more coding and logical you think, when people talk to you with ‘their angle’ it doesn’t compute.
At the end of the interaction, then you ask what is the point of this? Does this help me?
