What Happened To Me?

< Why

I see 4 factors that made me become the way I am.

1. I live in -27.8 °Celsius (-18.04 °Fahrenheit) with tons of ice and snow in Canada. It feels cold 8 months of the year. So I stay home most of the time talking to my friends.
2. I am Vietnamese. Both parents are Vietnamese from the South An Giang province. My family lived in Durham Region with very little Vietnamese around. So I played with whoever is here.
3. I was told by my “Canadian” elementary teachers growing up (Mainly my grade 4 teacher) to just focus on education and do “what I could” in safe supportive Canada. Everything should be OK as long as I listened and tried. This is what I subconsciously did because my teachers assured me 1000000000000% this way was going to be good and OK. I failed many times outside this frame.
4. When I got old enough, I met Vietnamese born in Canada like Tammy Nguyen. I think she has similar life questions like me. Beyond school, beyond jobs and careers, there is that space and time where life is about thinking and doing stuff that is Vietnameseness??? Vietnamese-Canadians in Greater Toronto Area??? Thoughts about life and journey???

But my mom said just do education and do what I wanted too.

My mother said keep doing.
