What do Vietnamese have?

After working with Vietnamese born in Canada, I can now see what Vietnamese think by comparing and reflecting.

  1. Vietnamese actually have their own community worldwide that we kind of keep tabs on even though most of us are doing what we can to survive and are independent.
  2. Vietnamese are forward. Many want to be forward as Americans. The more forward the better but there is a part of me that is reserved and balanced. I think the struggle to be forward and keeping your culture is a real thing.
  3. Vietnamese want to develop to become a powerful country really. But this might work against our reservedness to keep peace and balance.
  4. Vietnamese love technology. We like anything electronic.

It is a balanced game living in Canada … If you can live and have a family here in Canada as a South Vietnamese person … then you are actually very skilled to balance everything … Regardless the ‘Canadians’ help me get situated here.

If you don’t grow, grow … then what? Grow in what way? Growth in Canada in which way?

It might depend on the person in question.

As I have grown now after learning my culture and socializing with all Vietnamese like I should have done when I was young, how do you really live in Canada?

I did not learn my culture before and that made me feel off all the time.

You are supposed to learn history. Then you grow.

As a Southern Vietnamese, I am supposed to work hard and try hard.

People near equator I think work hard naturally because of the climate. For example Nigerians.

If I don’t work hard then things feel off.

If I don’t work hard, then some people that like hard workers won’t like me. And won’t want me around.

But really people need to have a full life of work and opportunities …

Vietnamese people are still new to the West kind of …

When I went to superstore here in Oshawa the other day, I was dealt with …

I look really mature and old now. I am basically 1 generation older than most people out there in public who are shopping.

They see my old face and see my life experiences and how I carry myself and know that I am ‘old timer’ now.

Not many people have seen old timer Vietnamese who has studied that long in the West and also being born in the West.

Something new like this is off balance and I get dealt with …

But whatever …

Westerners are ‘a bit’ surprised that a Vietnamese guy born in Canada has studied this much and is mature and wise … But they don’t really care. They eat their burger and drink their soda and it is just another day.

Other groups expect the negative Vietnamese stereotype from 1960’s.

What is balanced in 2025? Ideas from 1800s?

And do you really care about how ‘young’ and inexperienced people think? At the end of 50 years old everyone thinks the same really.

Everything is 1000 layers deep. How people behave and do things are affected by history over 1000s of years ago really.

Old people don’t care really because everything is whatever at the end of the day. People need to learn and grow and self develop.

My brother hasn’t learned logic yet because he hasn’t had nice caring aunties in Vietnam instilling the cultural thinking and values in him … ughh … Everyone needs to learn their culture first then cycle.

Why did you really study this long? Not have a family and stable job? Why was the road bumpy?

I want to live independently like every other Vietnamese person really. I won’t inherit assets so I have to fend for myself. I wanted a skill I could teach and grow with and collab. I don’t want to rely on anyone really. I wanted to do anything I want by myself. I wanted to build anything I want. Naturally people don’t care for each other 100% except for your mom so I have to do everything alone basically. I have also have an ego that wants to be independent, healthy and strong the natural survival Vietnamese way. But because I live in Canada and have everything good about being a Canadian … I am divided sometimes. I think this is normal for Vietnamese born in Canada to be divided and want and don’t want. So that is why it took so long but still had some results.

But born and living in the West even doing supermarket jobs you are tested to learn and grow everyday by Westerners …

So things are weird for me LOL! I feel the different thinking and is messes up my head.

So I ventured on my own basically after 2016.

Maybe this is just my way. While I relax and reflect and continue?

Vietnamese born in the West are always floating …

This is mostly bad??? So open that it is an endless walk uphills and downhills, sometimes fast and slow.

I am going to try something different after realizing this.
