Updates (November 20, 2024)
Life after school is really a lot.
Things I learned:
- School was OK. It gives you the baseline and structure. You can keep doing it and probably have a career in school???
- You have to keep working and learning to feel good. Feel strong and powerful.
- It is good to vent. You have to. It is a cycle of work, learning, resting and venting till you are 120 years old. I realize this now.
- You really have to make solid more than acquaintances connections. It could possibly mean also people from your background that have “no separation” to feel grounded and connected. You need to be grounded and connected to grow??? Otherwise you are grasping at straws. Grounded and connected has meaning.
- You really have to address your passions, hobbies and get all the skills in life. You realize later in life you need to keep learning all sorts of things to become able and competent to navigate life well. The more you can independently do things by yourself you become so confident and multilayered and have so much depth and uniqueness too. So much depth and layered that you are so solid that superficial and bias negativity from others don’t affect you if negativity happens against you. When people are young, they don’t understand that life is more and more and forever ongoing in learning and depth and personal. By cultivating your passions and hobbies you develop a unique skill set. You can rise above all criticisms if you stay your course doing “you” to develop really in depth and your way. You have to to grow uniquely and depth in order to live, push back negativity and do something new and great. Push back negative people and naysayers. You teach something new and yourself. You have to keep learning and doing regardless of whatever people say. Things have to push forward.
- You have to stop school to realize all this. You can not stay in school forever. If you stay in school forever, you don’t learn to be an independent thinker. Once you stop school and become independent minded with tons of skills you can address your personal troubles by yourself mostly and with people on your same frequency and same background. The more you stop traditional school the better you learn to live. Once you are out of school, you really think about life. By being outside of school, it will make you think independently and you will try to solve and develop your thinking.
- You learn nothing is 100% after living out of school and doing stuff for awhile. It is ongoing and changing.
- You need people who think and feel the same as you.
- Again, you have to vent. It is normal.
- The more you grow in knowledge and skills, when you revisit “life lessons”, they are new a bit. Nothing is really repeated. Something new every time.
- You really got to zone out doing your thing. This is to enjoy yourself and do.
This is general overall problems. But it is solved by just doing your work. Somehow work gets you there. Life gets serious after school.
….
What I learned about Vietnamese people.
- They have traditional male and female roles. As a man I have to take charge and act upon it and follow through.
- Traditional family is what is important.
- Each family is pretty unique.
- Traditional family is a strong pilar.

It is interesting being the first Vietnamese generation born in Canada after the Vietnam War to figure out life in the West. Lot of trial and error. Cycling and trying to figure out the best course of action. Trying your best and trying to be healthy. Trying to do Western thinking jobs is hard and so satisfying from a newcomer perspective.
…
Life might be the traditional really, really educated way now I realize … Just like the old stereotypes of the past for Asians.
…
How long will it take to have enough skills to work at tech companies?
Is there a real measure???
…
There is a difference between the East and the West. You have to play by the most forward rules.
However long it takes you must try. Take your time. Enjoy life too.
…
You really have to do Western work I see now. However you must do it somehow your way to manage and have fun and enjoy and relax.
